  正確解答是(C)。此一俚語的由來是：從前獵人打獵時，會請人敲打灌木叢，好讓樹叢裡的小動物受驚嚇而跑出來，藉此則間接可幫助獵人打獵。後來將「敲打灌木」 (beat around the bush) 引申為不直接了當地說，而是一味地「拐彎抹角」。

 
  around表示四周，常與about互換使用。相反地，要別人別再言不及義了，除了Stop beating around the bush.外，還可用Cut to the chase. (講重點) ，當然也可用Cut the crap! (別胡扯；少廢話！) ，不過這句話不太雅就是了。
